The worst kinds of relationships involve two people who consider the other insufficient and desire to change them. If you have a partner who wants to change themselves for the better, awesome! Help them meet their goals. In the strongest relationships, you accept one another for who you are.
Even when the times are tough. It’s easy to be perfectly respectful and kind to your partner during the fun times, but those moments where you’re mad, if you still treat them with respect, you’ve got something good there.
Of course, your partner shouldn’t do everything for you, but at the end of the day, your needs are met, physically, emotionally, and mentally.
This is important for the growth of a relationship. If you’re ready to settle down and your partner wants to go out every weekend and rage, you may not be in the same place. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with having different ideas of a fun time, but it’s a warning sign that there could be problems down the road. The more you’re on the same page, the better.
Relationships are work. There’s no getting around it. It’s doing dishes and walking the dog and changing diapers and paying the bills. When the responsibility for all these things falls to one partner, it’s a sign that there’s little future for you two. If the chores are split up, you likely have a future.
If you can’t, it’s hard to see that future together.
