You never think death and tragedy are coming for you. It’s a scary thought that we tend to shy away from because the less we think about it, the less real the possibility of it seems. In reality, at any second of any day, one of our loved ones can be taken away. All the memories we thought we yet had to make of them never see the light of the day, just like that.
Thankfully, we learn to make the most of life with the people who do remain with us. That’s why when it was time for Paul Walker’s daughter to walk down the aisle, she knew that despite losing her father, she wouldn’t be walking alone.

Paul and Diesel starred in five Fast & Furious films together and worked so closely alongside one another on long shooting days. The duo was still young and in the beginning of their career, with Paul only being 28 years old and Diesel, 34. They supported each other as friends and as they rose to fame, they kept each other grounded.
In an interview once, Vin Diesel spoke of the brotherhood theme in the Fast Furious Saga, explaining: “So much of Fast and Furious is celebrated by a brotherhood that’s eternal. I never in a million years imagined 21 years ago that, beyond the script and the film, there would be this other guiding light, this other driving force that propels you to be as passionate as you can and manifest in the movie. … We’re all mortals, but love is immortal.”
Unfortunately, at the height of their careers and just as they were watching the families they created blossom with their own children, Paul faced a sudden death in November 2013. The actor died in a car crash when the Porsche he was riding in hit a lamppost and combusted in flames, killing him and the driver, Roger Rodas.
The victims were sadly pronounced dead at the scene, and nothing could be done. No one expected Paul to be gone so soon and felt devastated by his absence. It was his daughter Meadow, especially who suffered the loss of not only her father but her “best bud.”
With Paul gone, Diesel felt a fatherly responsible toward his best friend’s daughter. After all, she was also his god-daughter. He remained close to her. She trusted him and was used to his presence since she was a little girl. She relied on him for support as they both grieved the loss of their loved ones. Diesel explains: “I feel very protective. It goes beyond the movie.”
Meadow loved Diesel like a father herself, He was not always the one caring for her as he said in an interview that she also “takes good care” of him. In fact, he adds: “She’s the first person on Father’s Day to wish me Happy Father’s Day,” he said.
Meadow was not only close with Diesel but with his whole family. She even called Diesel’s daughter Hanina Sinclair her “angel” and has referred to Dieselas her “family.”
It warmed Diesel’s heart to see how close his best friend’s daughter and his own daughter had become like they were always destined to be sisters just like Paul had become his brother. He explains: “To see her with my children is one of the most beautiful things. There are moments when I see her playing with [his 6-year-old daughter] Pauline and it hits me so deep ’cause I can only imagine what my brother sees when he sees that.”
Children eventually grow up and go to live their own lives but as Meadow became a woman she never forgot about the people who got her where she was. When it came time for her to tie the knot, Diesel wasn’t only in attendance but he was the one to walk her down the aisle in place of her father.
It was a moment that was emotional for everyone involved. Vin Diesel was not only filling in as Medadow’s fatherly figure but thinking of his best friend every step of the way. The moment was personal and heartwarming. Reflecting back on her Wedding Meadow told Vogue: “We couldn’t have imagined it to be any more perfect and personal—and honestly it was easy and simple. Louis and I knew exactly what we wanted from the start…It was a very intimate celebration.”
Paul Walker may be gone but he continues to live in the hearts of those who loved him, especially his daughter. She often shares candid pictures of her and her dad and expresses her love and how much she misses him. After all, she considered him her best friend and he was gone way too soon.
Meadow is also a part of a foundation that was started in her dad’s name as a way to honor him and keep leave his mark behind. Meadow often hosts charity events through the foundation. Her dad’s loss wasn’t in vain.
Age is not the determinant of how long you’ve got left on this earth. The only guarantee we have is that death is coming for us all at one point or another. We have no way to know when and how. In fact, it could even be the very next moment. However, this should not be a source of anxiety but rather a reason to live fearlessly and love deeply.
There is never going to be a better moment than this one right here as the next one is not guaranteed. So take risks, love hard and travel far because those are the things that are going to make you feel most alive and leave you without regret whenever your last moment comes.
