Everyone gets depressed, feels lonely or just simply hates everything for no reason. It’s an unavoidable part of life. How we choose to deal with adversity reveals our true character and builds up our inner resources.
Below are some words from famous people. They touch on how beautiful life is even in a terrible storm. All the moisture will mean strong crops and flowers.
So you are in a bad situation. It happens to the best of us, but what separates the best from everyone else is the control they nurture in themselves. You can’t control anything but yourself, so hold the reigns of your life firmly.
If you are ever in a funk and don’t know what to do about it, try writing a gratitude list. Not a little ten item chicken scratch. At least twenty examples of great people in your life and sixty to eighty general aspects of your life that you appreciate. It will be a surprising struggle at first, but stick with it and that list will end up being the last item.
If you haven’t experienced this for yourself (you probably have), then it’s experiment time. When you are feeling really low and sad, instead of focusing on your problems, reach out to someone you know that could use help. It can be helping your elderly neighbors rake the yard, go be a warm shoulder to cry on for a friend.
Adversity is the arena where we face the unknown, our fear. We have to meet life on life’s terms and this helps us grow.
Unexpected and negative aspects of life are normally the ones that can propel us towards a better and stronger us. It comes down to perspective, are you going to see this as an opportunity or an obstacle?
Fake it till you make it, comes to mind. If nothing else smiles are infectious and in my experience, spontaneous smiles lift my mood or at least loosen the funk I may be in.
Humor is one of the greatest forces out there. In order to make someone laugh, you have to have this positive intention and an awareness of the situation and person. The awareness of both good and bad elements in an environment is a feat by itself. Now all that information is acknowledged and released through laughter.
Change is the only constant in the universe. Eventually, everything will be forced to make a move. Your depression will not last forever, I know it seems like it will but it can’t. Knowing your situation has the seeds of change already within it, prompt them to grow on your terms.
The wider the range of emotions a person has experienced is noticeable even to strangers walking by. Depression can be debilitating, but time after time you get out of bed and back into the world. The rebound gets harder every time, and sometimes you’re not sure you have what it takes.
Yet here you are. You should be proud that understand that aspect of yourself and fight against it. Your inner resources get deeper and more plentiful every time you get out of that muck.
