Cuddling is a pretty standard human thing. Most of us love it and many of us, feeling broken and beaten down in our day to day lives, thrive on it. That could be why Samantha Hess, from Portland, Oregon, has had so much success as a “professional cuddler.” In her shop, customers can pay $60 per hour to get what Samantha calls “the level of human contact that we want or need in order to be our optimal selves.”
The shop is called Cuddle Up To Me and it’s the first of its kind. And the results are pretty shocking.
You may think: “Who would pay 60$ per hour for a hug?!” It seems that many would! Hess’s business has already become extremely popular.
“This business has taken off,” Hess told Fox 12. “I’ve gotten as many as 10,000 emails in a week.”
Hess came up with the idea during a real rough patch in her life. “I was at a place where I thought paying someone to hug me and not have ulterior motives sounded like a great idea,” she explains. “I decided why can’t this be a thing that we can easily and safely reach for?”
The cuddling sessions are catered to each individual. You can choose different cuddling positions, additional things like hair stroking and hand holding, or if you don’t like being touched but just want some company, you can sit with her and read.
At first, Samantha did home visits, cuddling with people in their privacy of their homes. But business took off and now she’s upping her game.
I know what you’re probably thinking, but Hess says that her business is not at all adult in nature, but is oriented to the family. “People always think that there’s upgrades or, you know, additional services that we provide, and that’s not true.”
“Our cuddle time gave me a different outlook on life. I had no idea what I was missing. I am a big fan now and look forward to our next session. She is encouraging, kind and sincere,” writes Steve from Vancouver.
