If you visit just about any American town, you’re going to find at least one Walmart store. Where I live, there’s 2 for every hundred thousand citizens. Some stores span a whopping 698 million square feet. So what happens when one of them closes? What do you do with two and a half acres of empty store?
Citizens in McAllen, Texas wondered what to do when their superstore shut down. Instead of letting their 124,500 square foot store stay vacant, they transformed it into the largest single-floor public library in the United States. It also serves as a huge farm and art market where locals get to sell their organic, locally grown crops and art work. Pretty neat, huh? Check out the photos:
