Jonny Hickey used to struggle from severe anxiety and social inhibition due to autism, but he has learned to open up with the help of a rescued pit bull.
He was very young when he received his diagnosis of autism. Adapting to ‘normal’ society and others outside of his family was taxing for him and caused him a great deal of anxiety.
When Jonny’s mom heard about an abused and neglected pit bull that needed a home, she decided to bring her home. The dog, named Xena, bonded with Jonny almost immediately upon returning home. Check out the video above. It’s a pretty incredible story.
