I feel like I’m pretty accomplished in my young life, but in some ways, I’m doubtful I’ll ever leave behind the legacy that Jadav Payeng has. Since 1970, Payeng, a Majuli islander, has been planting trees to save his little island. By himself, he’s planted a forest that’s larger than New York’s Central Park. His forest transformed what once was a barren wasteland into a lush oasis.

Payeng shows in ego or pride in what he has done. He’s humble, deeply philosophical, and passionate about the work he does. In this short documentary, Payeng takes us deep into his forest – and his life. Enjoy.
