Close your eyes and picture your happiest place. Where are you? Maybe you’re at a beach somewhere with white sand and clear blue water. Maybe you’re walking a green trail in a forest. Maybe you’re simply laying in the grass absorbing the sun. Chances are you’re outdoor somewhere indulging in the gift of nature. Nature feeds us, takes care of, and provides us with an escape. Yet, for some reason, we keep on cutting down the trees to replace them with the same grey brick building. We are slowly running out of oxygen, access to pure water, we’re losing land to melting ice and there’s almost nowhere left to escape for some for peace and quiet.
Let the following pictures remind you of how beautiful the earth that was given to us can be. We must protect it the same way it has longed to take care of us all along.
This is a rare desert bloom in the Atacama Desert in Chile. The Atacama Desert is the driest desert in the world. In fact, the soil in it was even compared to the one on mars because of the lack of rainfall.
Yet, even when all the odds are against it, nature shows us that it can overcome any obstacle. It doesn’t matter how hard it is to protect it, as each flower blooms in the desert it shows us that every single one of us can make a difference, no matter how small. We can overcome all odds.
Look at this tree that managed to still find its roots even when confronted with mountains. Its serious will to live was stronger than the unfavorable circumstances accumulating against it. How can such determination and drive not be inspiring?
What we need is to go back to our roots, before we prioritized expansions, technologies, and destructive innovations. Only when we find our roots can we balance ourselves and continue to grow. Otherwise, we’ll just rot.
Have you heard the saying: “red sky at night, sailor’s delight. Red sky at morning, sailor take warning.” What if the earth has been warning us all along that our time here will be limited unless we do something about it?
Maybe we’re just ignoring all the signs. Rather than consider pollution and natural catastrophes tragedies, maybe we should look at them as warnings that we’re doing something wrong, and that we’re failing to take care of the very same earth that keeps us alive..
Northern lights with wild reindeer under it will outshine city lights on any given night, yet we can’t even see it. We release so many chemicals into the air that they completely cloud the sparkle of the starry skies. We are literally blinding ourselves from nature’s beauty even though it continues to be beautiful when untouched at any given moment.
We now have to travel far, away from the city to catch a glimpse even though nature existed long before our cities and will outlive us one day.
The owl in this picture raised the duckling sitting beside it when it mistook the egg for its own. It seems funny to think about how the owl would react when it flies and the duck can’t follow it very high. Yet despite the natural chain, animals know how to provide for themselves and how to take care of their environemnet and each other.
Leave any animal in the wild and it knows how to figure it out. Yet somehow, we as humans have all become dependant on a world that can sometimes be destructive. The very least we can do is figure out how to take care of it too.
If there’s one message we should hold dearly is that we should take time away from focusing on ourselves, our chores, our day job, and focus on each other. Let’s take care of each other. All it takes is one small act of kindness to give purpose and encouragement.
Maybe if we all did it, we would stop being so distracted and immersed in the wrong things and open our eyes to the world around us.
Perhaps once we see the world again for how beautiful it is, we’ll want to actively take care of it again. Take Mount fuji, for example, it has inspired a million photographs. Let’s inspire each other. Remember the next time you go for a mental health walk-in nature that just like it’s taking care of you, you should take care of it back.
