Rose-Lynn Fisher wondered one day if her tears of grief looked different under her microscope than tears of joy. It was an interesting hypothesis that lead to an incredible discovery.

Over time, she studied 100 different tears and found that basal tears, those are tears our bodies create to lubricate our eyes, are different from tears that happen when we chop onions, laugh hard, and cry from grief. These are the images she captured:
