Random acts of kindness usually happen quickly. It could be a compliment from a cashier, a free drink paid for by someone in front of you, or a stranger returning something you dropped—all fast, momentary happenings that leave you feeling a little better than you were.
Some, though, start... unusually. There's mystery surrounding them, and they take time to come to fruition. No one knows this better than the citizens of Kelowna, BC, who've been experiencing a strange series of acts of kindness from a secret society.
We can make a big difference in our own or others' lives if we put our minds to it, and that can be taken rather literally.

A strange and unusual crime has started taking place in the town Kelowna, British Columbia, as a man named Kelly Blair awoke one morning to find that his garden gnomes had been stolen. A little strange, but nothing worth talking to the police or getting worked up about, especially since other random items had been stolen from his lawn rather recently. The man figured his gnomes were gone for good and accepted that fate.
"They were just gone," He told Kelowna Capital News.
That is, until they weren't.
A few weeks later, there was a knock at his back door, and when he went to answer it, there was an elderly woman handing him an envelope, addressed simply to "The Homeowner."
Inside the envelope was a printed and cut-out picture of a gnome with the words "The Gnome Restoration Society" written on the back. The woman who delivered the message refused to answer any questions, but did ask that Blair come with her to her car.
She said she wouldn't be giving any details about the gnomes or the society, just that she was here to deliver what had once been stolen from his lawn.
"The lady wouldn't tell me anything," said Blair.
When she opened her car, all of Blair's gnomes were not only accounted for intact but in immaculate condition, too. They'd been rather worn when they were stolen, but now they looked better than ever.
"The gnomes are home," he said, "It totally made my day."
The paint jobs were completely new and perfectly done. Blair was stunned by the level of detail, creativity, and talent that was poured into each of his ten gnomes.
"The detail is just incredible."
He was so grateful that this strange, slightly sad happening turned into something so positive, and something that brought a lot of joy to his day. He said he'd like to thank the Gnome Restoration Society for what they did and the love they clearly put into fixing up his gnomes.
"Thank you so much for this random act of kindness."
