Humans have been around for millennia now, with thousands of years of lived experience and research under our belts, and we still don't have an answer for everything. Some topics, some concepts, are just too big or too uncertain to glean any clear answers from.
In this space without a decisive truth, some fascinating theories emerge, like one that believes higher beings live just beyond our human perception.
The universe contains many secrets and mechanisms outside of what we know, the most common of which is the art of astrology.

The nature of our universe will likely never be truly discovered or even agreed upon. It's too complex, too far above our heads, that we, as a species, have no hope of ever knowing for sure how it works. There's something beautiful about that, though, about being surrounded by a mystery that's bigger than all of us.
It also means that researchers can bring forth some truly fascinating theories about the dimensions of our world, just as Michael Pravica, Ph.D., a professor of physics at the University of Nevada, has done recently.

Pravica proposes that within our universe, there are other dimensions outside of the three we live in, dimensions we're unable to see. He believes those dimensions not only contain otherworldly beings but that we're able to communicate with them via our consciousness.
Consciousness is another topic that theories cannot prove or disprove because we do not have a true grasp on it. Pravica says that we should look to these other, hidden dimensions to find answers about the nature of consciousness.
He claims our consciousness can transcend the physical world in moments of enlightenment and reach these other, secret dimensions just outside our own.
But what about the beings mentioned? Well, Pravica says that the creatures that exist in these hidden dimensions are likely free from the confines of time, space, and other universal forces that keep us where we are. Our consciousness has the same properties as those beings, he claims, which is why he believes we're able to communicate with them when we fully surrender ourselves to our own minds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, this is a controversial theory. It sounds like science fiction, even. But given the uncertain and nebulous nature of reality, the universe, and our own minds, anything could be possible.
Pravica says that communicating with these beings outside of our understanding of space and time is actually easier than it seems. Making art, engaging with science, thinking on philosophical quandaries, or even using our imagination to reach fantastical worlds are all ways that we can engage our brains on a higher level.

It remains unclear what that kind of communication would look like between us and any being free from space-time, nor do we know what they could teach us, but it's more about the journey than the destination at this stage. Pravica is an Orthodox Christian, and he says his faith has greatly influenced his approach to science and prompts him to have more (comparatively) fantastical beliefs that other scientists consider too far-fetched.
In fact, he's already received some backlash to this theory of his. Stephen Holler, Ph.D., says that theories such as this smothers curious minds and slows the furthering of scientific research.
He's been vocally against the use of spirituality or divine beings as a means of explanation for things we don't know yet. "It's a poor explanation mechanism that arguably stifles the inquisitive nature required for good science and teaches that it’s not okay to say, 'I don’t know,’" Holler says.
Still, it's a fascinating theory. The idea is that when we engage our minds with high-level thinking, we can briefly connect with beings that exist outside of our known realms. Could we harness that power? Could we ever see what lies beyond our narrow view?
As Pravica put it himself, "The sheer fact that we can conceive of higher dimensions than four within our mind, within our mathematics, is a gift [...] it's something that transcends biology."
