6 Essential Life Skills you will NEVER Learn in School

There is an unfortunate truth in our society that is becoming more and more clear every single day we continue to progress into the future.

Our schools have failed to provide us with the basic, essential skills that we simply need to have in order to coexist with each other, and to learn how to cope with change.

The more change that happens in our society, the more sporadic and unstable we become, simply because we have no idea how to handle it.

The other sad part is that we are totally reliant on other people to hold our hands for us, in hopes that we won’t have to do it all ourselves. This is a very pitiful way of existing and should be put to a stop. There are certain essential skills about being human, that you learn from just growing up. Don’t become someone who doesn’t grow up and never develop these skills.

1. Only You Can Make You Happy

This is actually very self-explanatory. There is no other person in the world who is going to make you feel happy other than yourself. Think about it; do you truly expect others to go out of their way specifically just for you, in order to make you happy every single day of your life?

That is a very unrealistically high expectation to have on everyone, especially the people you don’t even know yet. It is important you know how to make yourself happy because it is the most genuine feeling of happiness that you are ever going to get.

2. Being Independent

It is important to know how to be independent, which is actually in correlation to the first skill. If you do not know how to be independent, as well as being happily independent, then you have some work to do on yourself.

Being codependent is a very ugly quality in someone, compared to a person who exudes confidence in themselves without the help of others. Finding a peace within yourself where you can be independent and happy can prove to be one of the most rewarding feelings ever.

3. Be Passionate

If you lack passion in your life, then you are going to want to fix that immediately. Having a burning passion for something can provoke new and amazing things that you never knew existed before.

There is a difference in living day to day doing what you always do, compared to doing those things with passion because you love doing them. If you can live with passion, then you have achieved what so many others could not. Passion is something that comes from deep within yourself. It’s a feeling that is unmatched by anything else, because that is the thing you love doing the most.

4. Keep Busy

It is important that you find things to keep you busy, things that you love doing or things that you want to test out for the first time. Making little projects for yourself can also prove to be a very rewarding experience.

If you have a hobby or idea that you would like to test out, then go for it! Expand your knowledge from the unknown and embrace new things that you’ve always wanted to try!

5. Challenges

Find ways to challenge yourself on things that you find easy, or things that you’ve never done before. This relates to the fourth skill of keeping busy. Being able to problem solve or being able to adapt to your surroundings can sometimes prove to be very challenging.

If you are an active person, you may want to find a new place you want to go hiking, or a river to go kayaking down. Find some kind of new environment that challenges all of your senses to keep you on your toes.

6. Always Question

If you are ever unsure of anything at all, it is very important that you ask questions. Asking questions is not a sign of weakness and should never be viewed as such. People want to learn, people want to know how to do things the right way, or they just want to improve on the things that they have not had success with. It’s crucial that you realize you are always a work in progress, never settle in just one spot for yourself.

There are a variety of other skills they don’t teach you in school, however, these are some pretty basic lessons that you will most likely experience as you grow older.
