Man On Weather Report “Looked A Lot Like” Viewer’s Dad, Turned Out To Be His Long-Lost Brother

Imagine living your whole life thinking you know who your family is and who you are in relation to them, only to reach middle age and find out you’ve had a long-lost brother all along! When a man turned on his TV to watch the weather forecast, possibly one of the least exciting programs on there, the last thing he expected was for his whole life to change as soon as the weatherman came on.

It Started Out As Another Ordinary Day

Randy Waites had just grabbed the television remote, got comfortable on the couch, and turned on the weather network. It was a pretty typical day, one that he assumed would be uneventful like many others. Except not all of Randy’s life was uneventful…he had grown up without being able to know his father, but managed to move on anyway, and become the man that he is today.

Then a man came on the weather report and immediately caught Randy’s attention, they happened to share a last name. A name like Eddie Waites wouldn’t be that common in Sacramento and Randy didn’t know anyone else with it. It only appeared for 10 seconds but it stayed on Randy’s mind all day.

Too Much Of A Coincidence

Randy couldn’t get the man on the weather channel off his mind so he went to his daughter Camilla to see if he was just overthinking or if he really did see something strange. Camilla supported him and validated his feelings as she really did find that Randy and Eddie look similar: “I saw [Eddie’s] features and he actually looked a lot like my dad in the eyes,” Camilla told KCRA-TV.

Randy couldn’t just stop with the acknowledgment. He felt deeply in his heart that there had to be more to this situation than a coincidence. Not only did this man share his last name but also had an uncanny resemblance to him, what if that meant something more? Camilla shared the same feeling and encouraged Randy to look up Eddie online. The more Randy searched, the more similarities he found, making the situation more peculiar…

Long Lost Brothers Unit 50 Years Later

Randy kept searching explaining: “I seen him on the news and I had never met anyone with the same spelling as my last name,” until he decided the two should just meet in person and get to the bottom of this. The two men connected through a phone call and made a plan to meet up.

Upon reuniting, the pieces of the puzzle fell together and the duo discovered that despite having been apart for 50 whole years, they were in fact brothers: “It was funny how we clicked, it was like were friends for 20 years,” Randy said. Eddie said that he knew it was his brother as soon as he saw a photo of him. “Once I seen a picture of him, I seen my dad. I seen our dad.”

It turns out that Randy was right along. He explains: “The whole thing is surreal. To have not only a brother, but a family I never knew existed is beyond words,” he added, ‘”I knew it was real.” The more they got to know each other, the more similarities they found. Even looking at their pictures as children, with Eddie Waites on the left, and Randy Waites on the right, their resemblance is obvious. The two definitely shared a father.

Practically Neighbours The Whole Time

What was even more interesting is that the two brothers had lived just 30 miles apart from each other their whole lives. They could have crossed each other a thousand times having no idea they shared the same DNA. The whole thing was overwhelming and the two appeared emotional over their reunion.

Their meeting was captured by news cameras and was quite heartwarming. The brothers are seen sharing a long hug, making up for lost time before Eddie gives his brother a kiss on the cheek. Despite having been apart all these years, they were ready to finally be family: “It’s just unbelievable,” says Randy to which Randy excitedly answers: “Where have you been all my life? “Eddie felt the same way and asked Randy back. “Where have you been?”

Life’s Funny That Way

To go your whole life without knowing your family, you likely make peace with it by the time you’re in your 50s. But, to then have the universe surprise you in such a way and gift you with the family you’ve been missing your whole life all of the sudden, can feel quite surreal. Eddie explains, “It’s almost an out-of-body experience,” This wasn’t a random relative he found but his own brothers, he adds he was “Beyond Words,”

The brothers’ families shared their excitement and confusion. Randy’s 13-year-old son Dalton thought”It was crazy,” to be adding a whole new side to the family. But Randy feels like he’s finally receiving the answers and the opportunities he’s always wanted: “The whole thing is surreal. To have not only a brother, but a family I never knew existed is beyond words,” he added.”I’ve never met my father, never saw a picture of him my entire life,”

Randy’s brother is filling him on all the family history he missed out on over the years:”[Eddie] has been texting me all kinds of different stuff, pictures of my grandfather, and filling in on the family history that I never had on that side.”

The Future Is Bright

Let this be a reminder that it’s never too late. Don’t run out of patience when you ask and don’t receive right away. Timing is everything. What is meant for you will always find you, as long as you stay open to it and keep working towards it for as long as it takes. As for Eddie and Randy, their future plans are mostly about spending as much time together as possible. Eddie wants to help Randy fill the haps of his life. This has brought a lot of peace to Randy: “I’ve never met my father, never saw a picture of him my entire life,” Now having the missing pieces of his identity will help him find closure and reach his potential.
