Does our concept of time and space actually make sense? Do we actually know what the end and beginning are or even look like? Where did humans come from and why are we on this planet? We wish we could have all the answers to the universes, like somehow unlocking the "how" would change our "why."

As we understand more, we can control our purpose on earth. New research from the Hubble Space Telescope has found something strange is happening in the universe. NASA is working on figuring out what exactly is happening and why. However, this could not only challenge our previous assumptions and understanding of the universe but it could also introduce "brand new physics." Keep reading to learn what it means...

NASA says something strange is happening with our Universe. This information was shared by scientists studying data collected from the Hubble Space Telescope.

Scientists aren't sure what exactly is happening, all they know is that something strange is taking place.

They explained in a press release: "The cause of this discrepancy remains a mystery. But Hubble data, encompassing a variety of cosmic objects that serve as distance markers, support the idea that something weird is going on, possibly involving brand new physics."

The Universe Is Expanding

It has do with how quickly the universe is expanding. While expansion was expected, it's advancing at a much quicker pace than predicted.

The more data they collect, the more observations show other galaxies are moving away from our Milky Way faster.

Moving Into Dark Energy

The even stranger part is why. Scientists aren't able to pinpoint the cause just yet. Here is what we know so far.

The universe is full of matter and the attractive force of gravity pulls all that matter together. What affects the earth's acceleration is called dark energy but we don't know how it affects it.

The Explanation Is Still A Mystery

While the explanation of expansion is still a mystery we do know that roughly 68% of the universe is dark energy.

Everything on Earth only makes less than 5% of the universe. We are such a small fraction.

The Hubble Space Telescope technology has helped NASA make strides in understanding the universe.

This powerful tool can measure the interstellar and is working on a large-scale mission of figuring out how quickly our universe is expanding. It's the reason scientists suggest that the universe is not expanding at a uniform rate.

Scientists are currently studying this strange phenomenon on a set of space and time called "milepost markets."

Adam Riess of the Space Telescope Science believes that these measurements are now getting more accurate than ever before, adding: "You are getting the most precise measure of the expansion rate for the universe from the gold standard of telescopes and cosmic mile markers."

So far we know that "something weird" is going on in the universe based on the Hubble data. The study of how the universe started and where it originates from is still a mystery.

However, theories of its expansion date back to The Big Bang event. This theory claimed that the universe expanded from an initial state of high density and temperature. It kept expanding until it reached the large-scale form we know today.

Still A Long Way To Go

Studies of how much it expanded and how fast started around 1920, thanks to measurements by Edwin P Hubble and Georges Lemaitre. They were able to find that the galaxies around us weren't stationary but kept moving away from us.

We've gathered a lot more knowledge since but still have a long way to go.

At What Rate?

Hubble was able to detect that the galaxies around us were moving at a non-uniform, increasing pace. The further a galaxy was from Earth, the faster it was moving away.

For now Scientists continue to try to understand this phenomena and measure the rate of this expansion. They can see that the expansion is much quicker than was predicted.

Getting Technical

To get technical, instead of the expected 67.5 (plus or minus 0.5) kilometers per second per megaparsec, the observations noted 73 (plus or minus 1) kilometers per second per megaparsec

There was a time when in 1998 the Hubble Space Telescope recorded that the universe was actually expanding more slowly than it is today.

It is unlikely that our minds could ever expand enough to fully grasp the vast concept of the universe. The universe doesn't operate on the same concepts of time and space that we use to make sense of the world.

For all, we know the universe is timeless, with infinite numbers of parallel universes, spaces that operate at different times at the same time, and black holes that connect past and present and allow travel in between.
