They say that people see what they want to see. Well, this is definitely a true statement, according to the science of optical illusions. Seeing is not always believing, and the truth is that there's not always one clear-cut right answer when it comes down to the way we understand reality.
Our eyes can deceive us because they're merely perceptions or an interpretation of the information it translates from our vision to our mind. Think of it like the language of our consciousness. What we perceive as reality might not necessarily be what is actually real. Test your vision to see if your brain can detect real reality!

Optical Illusions often use shapes and dimensions to trick our brains into seeing different possible images and messages. But, some of these psychological tests can be much simpler than ever imagined.
We bet you think you know the difference between the colors blue and green like the back of your hand. Well, think again! This illusion has surprised thousands of people, and what you see exposes how your brain views the world. Take a look at the survey for yourself, but remember ... what you see first is your truth, but not necessarily what is real!
Being a company that specializes in the anatomy of eyes, Optical Express conducted a survey in 2016 on the connection between what the human eye sees versus what the human brain registers. A test to analyze how people perceive color was participated in by 1,000 people.
Each participant was given a square of the same color, in which it was their decision to decide if that color was blue or green. Before we reveal the results ... what did you see first?
The results of this survey concluded that our unique perception of things alters reality to match our own viewpoints. At first glance, 64% of people reported seeing green, and 32% voted on blue.
The test was taken to a new level, and on the second time around the same color was placed in between different shades that were obviously blue. With this change in perspective, people's answers shifted instantly. Now, 90% of the votes were in for green. This shows that you can reality really is relative!
So, you're probably wondering, what was the correct answer? Optical Express explains that the original image's Red, Green, and Blue ratio is 0 for red, 112 for Green, and 116 for Blue. The correct answer is that the color fits into the green category.
When sandwiched in between different shades of blue, it becomes clear that the original image does not fit in. But, when you look at the color by itself, it's high blue count makes it tricky to decipher it's place on the color wheel. Our brain takes a similar approach when thinking about people and situations from a distance. Sometimes we don't realize what we're looking at until we look at it in relation to something else.
The reason each individual has their own response to this test is that our own unique eyes and brain register information differently. Stephen Hannah from Optical Express explains:
"Light is converted to an electrical signal which travels along the Optic Nerve to the Visual Cortex in the brain. The brain makes its unique interpretation of this electrical signal ... It is not surprising that many respondents changed their minds when seeing the color in contrast to the two blue shades, as we perceive an object's color based on a comparison to its surrounding shades, not on the actual color itself.”
If you were certain that you saw the color blue, your false response does not indicate that you are color blind. Instead, this psychological game is an excellent reminder that the concept of color is often up to our imagination!
A person can't see life through somebody else's lens because each of us is composed of unique anatomy and live through our own experiences that shape the way we see the world. Our being is a collection of information from our unique lived experiences even if it's within a shared environment.
Most optical illusions reveal a deeper insight into the thoughts and experiences hidden deep in our subconscious. On the contrary, this test serves as a lesson that we all view and understand life a little differently.
The way you see the sky might slightly differ to someone else's viewpoint. So, the next time you're fighting with the perspective of another person, keep this idea in mind! What you see is not always what you get.
