Confucius was an influential Chinese philosopher, teacher and political figure known for his popular adages and for his models of social interaction.
Confucius died on November 21, 479 B.C. in Qufu, China, a year after losing his son, Tzu-lu, in battle. As of the fourth century B.C., Confucius was regarded as a sage who had deserved greater recognition in his time.
By the second century B.C., during China’s first Han Dynasty, his ideas became the foundation of the state ideology.
Today he is widely considered one of the most influential teachers in Chinese history. Following are 7 of his most famous quotes:
This is the “Golden Rule” that most of us were taught as a child: “Do unto others as you would have done unto you.”
This is such a simple rule that can have a profound effect on your life and the lives of those around you.
This reminds me of the saying, “Give a man a fish and he eats for one day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.”
Doing things for people is nice. Doing too much for someone will lead to their downfall.
Everyone has their own ideas about what makes something beautiful. But, beauty is not all about appearances.
You have to look deeper than just the outside of something or someone to find the true beauty within.
If you choose to just look at surface beauty, you will truly miss out on some wonderful relationships and opportunities.
This is one of my favorite quotes. If you’re going to do something, be “all in.” Don’t just do it halfway. Do it with all of your heart.
Even if you fail, at least you know you gave it your all. And, speaking of failure:
Remember: “That which doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.” Learning from a failure and moving on turns that “failure” into a life lesson that will make you stronger and wiser in the end.
So, pull yourself up by those bootstraps and keep trying!
It’s important to remember the difference between ignorance and stupidity. Ignorance is a lack of knowledge while stupidity is lacking intelligence or common sense.
An intelligent person knows they don’t know everything and educates himself/herself on those things they don’t know or understand.
If we act in life with a good heart and with good intention then we will truly be able to do this.
If we have acted out of the goodness of our hearts, then we will have nothing to fear or worry about. That goodness will come back to us.
