5 Common Reasons People Tend To Dislike Their Jobs

Hating your job isn’t new. It’s probably been around since the beginning of time.

When you really don’t like what you can do, going to work and doing even the simplest tasks is so draining. These are the 5 most common reasons people hate what they do.

1. The job is boring.

It’s not that you have a bad job or your boss sucks or your co-workers are jerks. Your job is just boring. Maybe it doesn’t challenge you mentally or you’re just burned out on it.

Whatever the case, recognize that you have a job and that’s great. Use it to find a job you won’t find so dreadfully boring.

2. Your boss uses the recession as an excuse.

One of the things that happened during the great recession that started in 2008 was management got a lot worse.

In a bad economy, unskilled workers are a dime a dozen. Management knew this and was able to use this fact to push their employees to the breaking point.

I even had a job where the manager would show us his stack of resumes every day and tell us to work hard or we’re fired. Nice guy, right?

3. Your schedule stinks.

This is one of the easiest things to fix.

If your schedule stinks, ask for a different schedule. Of course, in a 9-5 setting, that may not really work out for you.

Consider then moving to part-time and finding a second part-time job or switching shifts with a co-worker.

4. The company’s policies are somewhat fascist.

Years ago when I worked a minimum wage job, I got written up over cell phone use. Here’s the kicker: I was texting on my break.

We had two 15-minute breaks on the clock, but the official rule was that you couldn’t use your cell phone on the clock.

What it came down to was that the managers sought any reason they could to write you up so they could fire you and hire someone who hadn’t gotten any raises yet.

So what did I do? Other than throwing the write-up in the trash, I took it to their managers.

I explained its insanity and you know what? They agreed. When a company’s rules are ridiculous, try to work through them with your employer.

5. You’re just working the wrong job.

It happens. This time the answer is pretty basic: figure out what you want to do and go do it. Easier said than done, right?
