We can try and speculate what our final words may be. We can hope that our final moments will be full of happy realizations and fond recollections.

No one can say for sure how they will feel or what they may think when faced with the immediacy of death. I’ve written articles on the advice of those who were dying and those who took care of the terminally ill. This letter hits home in a different way, as the author is so young.

This thread comes from a Reddit thread started by mylasttie. A 24 year old man is diagnosed with aggressive cancer and isn’t long for this world. He’s a little younger than myself. His strength and perspective is something I hope to emulate in my day to day life. His letter culminates in inspiring people to make a mark on the world.

He laments the fact that he feels he never had the time to doing anything of significance or impact the world around him. This letter is his way of giving his life meaning. He hopes to inspire and change the readers for the better.

He goes on to reveal how information of his untimely death has reshaped his priorities and feelings. Most people get caught up in the belief that we are all guaranteed a tomorrow and that isn’t always the case. Don’t let a single opportunity or moment slip by. Try everyday to become a happier and more productive version of you.

Don’t waste your finite time and resources on a labor you don’t believe in or enjoy. You can never master it because you don’t have positive emotions tied to it. The pride from your dedication, passion and discipline shouldn’t tie you to work you don’t enjoy. These traits would be nurtured the same or better in a labor of love.

He touches strength of character and it’s importance. Don’t let the opinions of others hurt you or weigh you down. Listen to your inner voice and the opinions of those you love. Don’t make excuses or complain. Every moment you don’t take responsibility for your life is another moment you don’t fully embrace and control.

He warns that we should never take our friends and relatives for granted. They are infinite sources of love and support. He beckons each of us to live with love and strength.

‘Leave a mark in this world. Have a meaningful life, whatever definition it has for you. Go towards it. The place we are leaving is a beautiful playground, where everything is possible. Yet, we are not here forever. Our life is a short spark in this beautiful little planet that flies with incredible speed to the endless darkness of the unknown universe. So, enjoy your time here with passion. Make it interesting. Make it count!’
