We're told since we're children that we should follow our dreams, that we should reach for the stars at all costs, and never compromise on what we want. Though, as we all know, things change as we get older, and sometimes our dreams get put on the back-burner as we do what we can to stay afloat.
That doesn't mean things can't change, though. If you've been feeling down and out lately, maybe all you need is to tap back into your heart's truest desires in order to find your purpose.
To find our purpose, to connect with our passions, both of these things require a lot of reconciliation with our childhood spirit. Through inner child work, you can find peace amid life's chaos and heal the wounds that haunt you.

The quest to find one's purpose is a tale as old as time itself. It's an arduous journey that requires a lot of introspection, courage, and a willingness to break away from societal expectations.
Often, we find ourselves trapped in a cycle of "shoulds," doing things because we believe it's what is expected of us rather than following our true desires. Freeing ourselves from these chains and listening to our hearts is the first step toward discovering what we genuinely love and, ultimately, our purpose in life.
Society often imposes a blueprint for success, dictating what we should study, the careers we should pursue, and even how we should live our lives. Passion is the fuel that drives us to achieve greatness, not following someone else's script. Realizing this can be tough, though, especially if the script is all you've ever known.
Acknowledging your true desires should feel like opening a window in a room that's been closed off for too long. It allows fresh air and light to enter, illuminating the aspects of your life that truly matter to you. You may need to step outside your comfort zone and confront some fears, but this first step is far too important to let something like uncertainty stop you.
Mindfulness and reflection are powerful tools in the quest to find your purpose. They allow you to tune into your inner self, providing clarity and understanding about what matters most to you. Through practices such as meditation, journaling, spending time in nature, or healing inner child work, you can gain insights into your actual passions and how to align yourself with them.
Don't feel bad for needing to look for your desires. It's easy for them to become lost, especially when living a life that someone else imposed on us. Just know that they're still there in your heart just waiting for you to return.
Fear of failure often holds us back from exploring new interests and opportunities. However, experimentation is necessary for finding your purpose. You won't love everything you do on the first try, that's just a fact. You might even hate some of them! What matters most is that you just keep trying. And yes, that includes trying things that seem scary or out of character.
You need to learn to give yourself permission to explore and play without the fear of failure or judgment, understanding that each experience brings you closer to discovering what truly makes you feel alive.

No one finds their purpose in isolation. Surrounding yourself with people who share your passions, or at the very least support them, is a wonderful source of joy, inspiration, and motivation to keep pushing forward. Just like you support your friends in their endeavors, your friends should do the same for you.
That being said, it also involves setting boundaries with others and yourself, learning to say no to things that don't align with your true interests and yes to those that do. Once you get a good handle on who you are at your core, you can start curating your experiences better.
The journey towards doing what you love is not without its challenges and setbacks. There may be moments of doubt, fear, or external pressure to conform to the traditional path. However, it's during these times that staying true to your purpose becomes more important than ever.
Reminding yourself of why you embarked on this journey and the joy it brings can help you navigate these obstacles. Seeking support from friends, mentors, or a community that values your happiness can also provide comfort. We all succumb to our demons from time to time, just be sure they don't hold you down forever.
As cliche as it sounds, finding your purpose isn't about the destination, it's about the journey. You could even argue that this type of pursuit never has a set destination. We're always growing, changing, and evolving through the years, and the passion you hold today could be replaced entirely by something else next year.
It's also important to remember that it's never too late to forget all the "shoulds" in your life and start doing what you love. Being true to yourself is one of life's most important pursuits. Don't let fear keep you from it.
