In our society, being single is viewed with such disdain. When you’re single, you’re constantly barraged with questions like “When are you going to find someone?” or “When are you going to settle down?”
When I was still single, my response was always the same:
I always enjoyed being single. I enjoy being in a relationship now too.
I think the idea is that we learn to enjoy whatever lot in life we have. These are some of the signs that you probably dig living the single life.
How nice is it to be able to pick up and go without asking permission? Without taking into consideration what someone else wants or needs? Friends going to the bar?
Awesome! Want to go for a hike after work? Do it! You don’t have anyone to answer to, and that’s pretty rad.
I mean, you’re not going to the movies to hang out with someone, right? You’re going to watch a movie. Who cares if you’re on a date or with a partner?
Movie dates are pretty much the worst anyway. Hey, let’s go to this dark room and not talk for an hour and a half. Pass.
I’ve always enjoyed dining alone.
When I was single, my favorite thing to do was go to the local divey burrito join, get myself seriously the best vegetable burrito I think I’ve had in my entire life, and read the local paper every week.
It was a pleasant way to recharge and get a little alone time.
This was another favorite of mine.
I enjoyed going out after work and having a beer or two. Just talking to whoever was around, unwind a little bit – I didn’t need anyone to be there with me.
One of the benefits of traveling by yourself is that you don’t get the comfort of being insulated by a person or a group of people you know.
If you want to talk to someone, you’re going to have to go out and find someone to talk to. Before you know it, you’ll have friends all over the globe.
I still to this day stay in bed later than my partner so I can sprawl out and take up the whole bed. It’s pretty awesome sleeping by yourself.
It can be just so relaxing to hop in the car and drive to some awesome spot near where you live and hang out for a while.
Alone time is so nice in a society where we’re constantly surrounded by people.
Maybe if you’re as introverted as me at least.
I wouldn’t say that I neglect my friendships, but I think just about everyone in my life at this point gets that when I’m around, I’m around.
When I’m not, I’m not. And if I don’t get back to you right away, no big deal.
‘Nuff said.
Does this sound like you at all? If it does, I think you’re in a good spot. When you’re ready to partner up with someone, you’re going to be a kickass lover.
