Dating is something that changes over time, that much is clear.
We don’t often get to bring our favorite guy and gal pals out to ice cream socials followed by doing the Madison over at the hop.
Things are different, and that’s fine. I wouldn’t trade 2015 for 1950 any day of the week. But there are some cool old-fashioned relationship habits that we should, well, make cool again!
In my case, I’d take a nice houseplant. Venus fly trap or something like that. But showing up to that first date with a handful of flowers lets your date know that you really like ’em already, and that you have respect for them.

I don’t know about you, but I really dislike clubs. grimey, sweaty people “dancing” to noises that don’t pass for music. Instead, why don’t we make going dancing to live music a thing again? It makes such an awesome date.
“Do you want to hang out sometime?” “Sure, person who clearly wants to be my friend!” Com on, if you want to go out with someone on a date, ask them if they want to go on a date.
If you just ask them to hang out and they don’t pursue you romantically, you absolutely may not complain about the “friend zone.”
Frankly, you need to grow up if you think it’s appropriate to complain about someone who won’t have sex with you. The great thing about sex is that I don’t have to give it to you. It’s mine, dammit.
It’s always awkward to ask what your relationship with someone is when you’re still in the early throes. Are you just two consenting adults enjoying each others’ company?
Are you actually going steady? Be clear about it! And be proud of the chance to ask.

I’m a firm believer that when on a date, you turn off your smart phones and be there with each other.
It’s ridiculous when your date pulls out their phone and starts texting in the middle of the date. It tells me you’re not interested. Don’t expect a call back.
Little gifts are fun, but there’s nothing quite as amazing as receiving a poem or, sometimes, a super romantic voicemail. These nice gestures let your date know you care.
You know, I’m a free spirit. I say dress however you want.
But I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen a couple people out on a date where one is dressed up a bit and the other is in basketball shorts and a tank top
. Come on. Let’s up our game a little bit. They’ll see you in your “Sunday best” eventually. Act like you care.
