Baby Abandoned In A Dumpster Now Controls A Multi-Million Dollar Thanks To His Father’s Illness

When a newborn baby opens their eyes, usually the first face they’ll see is their mother’s hugging them closely and smiling down. The baby is completely helpless to her, and dependent on her. Babies are then usually taken home to loving families where they can grow up with care and be given the opportunities to become the best adult they possibly could. That’s the hope anyway.

That’s not the case for all babies however, and it definitely wasn’t for Freddie Figgers who at just 2 days old was throw out with the rest of the trash. Yet somehow at 32, he managed to become a multi-millioaire and CEO, all because of love. Here’s how.

Throw Out Like Trash As A Baby

Freddie was born in Quincy, Florida but wasn’t alive for a whole week on this earth before his mother decided that she wanted nothing to do with him and rather than look for care for him, just abandoned him in a dumpster.

The newborn baby was then found all alone on the street by a passerby. Believing the baby to be in distress, they called the police and the baby was hospitalized with minor injuries for two days before being placed in a foster home. Looking back Freddie recalls: “My mother threw me away just like day to day trash,” he says “I’m not even supposed to be here.”

A Second Chance At Life

The baby was placed in the home of Nathan and Betty Figgers, a couple who lived nearby and already had their own daughter. The couple initially was just fostering the baby as they often took in other foster children. However, they had always wanted a boy so they decided to take Freddie as their own and started the process of adoption. This would be Freddie’s much-deserved second chance at life, with a real family.

Freddie to this day is incredibly grateful for the kindness these once strangers had. However, Freddie’s upbringing wasn’t easy. Kids would bully him and call him “dumpster baby” when they found out about his past. “It’s a rural area, so after it happened, everybody heard about it,” explains Freddie: “My parents told me the truth about what happened as I grew older. I thought about it a lot as a kid, and I’d have to say it was embarrassing when I was younger.”

At Just 9 Years Old, He Became A Technician

The bullying was hard on Freddie who saw himself as a Figgers and didn’t want anyone thinking otherwise. One day when Freddie was just 9 years old, his dad came home with a broken 1989 Macintosh computer he had gotten for $25 at a thrift store for his son to play around with. “He thought that a computer might help to keep me out of trouble,” said Figgers.

His dad had no idea how right he would be. ​ Freddie was quite innovative from an early age and managed to fix the first computer all by himself. He even took it apart and put it back together several times borrowing components from his father’s old radio.

Making Headlines As “Computer Whiz”

When he turned 13, the city of Quincy hired him to help repair its computers and he became a technician. Freddie was gaining local recognition and was admired as a “computer whiz”. He already had come a long way from his dumpster days and was on his way to success.

Being a fast self-learner, Freddie always had a sense of curiosity and a drive to experiment. So while still a teenager he decided to skip college and build his own cloud database. He explains: “I wouldn’t recommend my path to everyone,” “But it worked for me. When I was 17, I had 150 clients that needed websites and storage for their files. I just kept building from there.”

CEO At Just 15 Years Old

Freddie was right to take a risk and carve out his own path. When he was a teenager, he succeeded in founding a cloud computing company. But it’s his inspiration for the company that’s the most heartwarming part of this story.

Freddie built a shoe with a GPS tracker and two-way communication for his adoptive father who has Alzheimer’s. This would be the program that makes Freddie a millionaire when he sells it for 2.2 million dollars.

Looking For A Way To Help His Adoptive Dad, He Founded A Company

Keep in mind that Freddie was just 15 when he first started his cloud computing company. His dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, and he wanted to do whatever he could to help him. So he come up with an idea to communicate with him whenever he was struggling. He built a shoe with a GPS tracker and two-way communication.

“I could pick up the phone and say, ‘Hey dad, where are you at?’ and he doesn’t have to do anything, just lean down and talk into his shoe and I can track his location…That program was very successful and I had a company reach out to me out of Kansas and they bought the program from me for $2.2 million.”

Love Turned Into On Going Multi-Million Dollar Success

A year later, Freddie used the money from his computing company to found Figgers Communication. All because a couple once had enough love to go around to extend to a baby found in a dumpster and because that baby grew up to love his adoptive parents enough to want to help.

From then on anything was possible Freddie, the sky was the limit. At the age of 24, Figgers had built and designed another 80 custom software programs. His mind was without limit and so was his drive and dedication.

Parents Are Not By Blood

Nathan and Betty Figgers, may not be Freddie’s blood parents but they have proven to be just as loving, nurturing and caring, if not more, than a biological parent could ever be. Freddie’s success is in part credited to the environment his parents created for him where he could explore his innovation and reach his utmost potential. They truly gave him a second chance at life, and it turned out to be all he needed to be living proof of a miracle.

Freddie explained: “It’s amazing that you can meet people like that, and till this day, I have never met my biological parents. I have never had the interest.”

Never Forgetting His Roots

Freddie may now be a multi-millionaire but he hasn’t fogotten about where he started. He makes it a point to give back to his community and has even become an active role-model in his community.

Freddie likes to sponsor youth programs, offers college scholarships to high school seniors, pays senior citizens’ bills and helps to bail out homes in foreclosure. He explains:c“I believe in turning caring into action, and if you see a problem find a solution to deliver an impact to change someone’s life,” he adds, “I’m going to impact this world and change today for a better tomorrow because money is nothing but a tool, but with that tool, we can impact and change everyday people’s lives with opportunities.”

His Next Mission: Helping sufferes of Diabetes

Freddie has surpassed many milestones all before the age of 32, but he’s not done just yet. He is now focusing his efforts on creating devices to help sufferers of diabetes. He writes: “Diabetes is a major public health problem that is approaching epidemic proportions globally. The prevalence of diabetes is rising at an alarming rate. Nationwide, 1 in 12 adults has diabetes, and type 2 diabetes has become a commonplace childhood disease as well.”

His motivation is once again noble explaining:“We have a solution that’s all in one and it remotely manages diabetics 24/7. But best of all affordability for all patients. WE PUT PEOPLE OVER PROFIT.” Now we stay tuned to see what he’ll accomplish next!
