Are we just all becoming our parents no matter how much we deny it? When we were young, many of us looked to our parents as heroes and wanted to be just like them when we grew up. As we got older, we realized that they were merely human beings and trying their best with trial and error and we stopped putting them on a pedal stool. Instead we wanted to better than them, just as they hoped for us by teaching us all kinds of lessons. Other have sworn from the beginning never to be like their toxic parents, and to let their mistakes be their guide.
Yet, all of us, somehow still getting to an age where we seem to just like our parents anyway? So when exactly does that happen? A study may have found the answer.

The term “parentamorphosis” was coined by Progressive Insurance commercials featuring Dr. Rick who joked about how adults seeking insurance were becoming just like their parents. It was never a big realization or sudden change, but more of developed habits that drew a line between reckless youth and the organized structure of parents.
Do you remember how annoyed you felt at your mom’s attempts to make the house look like no one even lived in it with her excessive cleaning and the way that your dad embarrassed you when he tried to tell the plumber to do his own job? Well, there comes a time when without you realizing it, you get excited when gifted a new vacuum and can’t wait to put it to good use.
Are you still searching for your life purpose? You won’t believe what the science of Numerology can reveal about you
A study based on a poll was commissioned by Dr Julian De Silva, a Harley Street plastic surgeon. The results were taken from 2,000 participants. The goal of the study was not to find out whether we become our parents, but rather when. “We all turn into our parents at some point in our lives – and that is something to be celebrated. They are the most wonderful people in the world,” says Dr. De Silva.
What factors in becoming are lifestyle choices, sexes, and physical signs of middle age. Dr. De Silva thinks that becoming our parents is something to be celebrated. However, not all of us were lucky enough to have good role models we want to be like.
The early signs are different for men than they are for women. For women, the signs are watching the same television shows, using the same sayings, and picking up similar hobbies. However, some key life changes can accelerate the process. Women stop rebelling against their mothers when motherhood hits. This stage in life changes them not only physically, but also their personality.
For men, the signs include adopting their father’s political opinions, shutting off lights in rooms that aren’t being used, and listening to an oldies radio station because today’s hits don’t even sound like music anymore. Fatherhood is a turning point for men as well. Then there are the signs of middle age, such as balding and weight gain that physically make them look closer to their fathers.

So is there a magic number that turns us into our parents? The study found that there is an age where it happens for most of us. Women start turning into their mothers at the age of just 33, a year before men start behaving like their fathers, according to the research. Dr. De Silva recognizes that although it is an inevitable part of aging, it’s a process lots of people want to put off for as long as possible
For that reason the plastic surgeon has noticed that ” it is one of the reasons why the average age of first-time cosmetic surgery is coming down for both sexes For women, it is now 37 and for men, it is 43. More people are trying to delay this onset of middle age to improve their appearance and levels of self-confidence.'”
is becoming your parents such a bad thing? Well that probably depends on what kind of parents we had and how ready we feel to let go of our youth. We tend to want to “feel” young for as long as possible but when everyone around keeps getting younger, and we no longer understand the fashion or the music, we get to a point where we can’t hide from the truth. From there towards, we might as well make the best of our aging because it has its own perks.
For instance, we’ve accumulated enough wisdom and experience to feel secure in our identity and in tune with our needs. We’ve likely settled enough that we can start expanding our horizons. We’re still young enough that we’re not yet close-minded and rigid so we’re open to trying new things while knowing our boundaries. We can contribute to the world that’s fast-changing around us. Plus with more money in the bank, food in the pantry, and a clean house, we’re actually thriving.
Our biggest job is to leave the earth a better place for the next generations to come. This means being open-minded to find innovative ways of making our systems sustainable but effective while keeping in mind mental health over profit, fulfillment, and the human touch.
This kind of intellectual humility teaches us that we need to be flexible. We should be smart and strong-willed to achieve great things for our own generation, but flexible enough to think differently than the last generation and to admit that we’re wrong when the dynamic changes with the next generation. We get stuck in our ways and revert to what’s been taught to us but to add to the world from generation to generation we need to change our minds and create disruptions that help our kind move forward.
Researchers believe that by remaining flexible, we retain the willingness to change but keep the wisdom to know when we shouldn’t. The key in taking the best parts of our parents while still becoming our own is to be open to new experiences. We can become like our parents because it’s inevitable but still keep the parts of ourselves that can not keep up with our constantly changing world but also make an impact within it.
