The growing interconnectivity of the world is leading us to see the end of ‘pure blooded’ races. People are more open to the idea of mixed race relationships around the world, and the mash up has many people curious what our future children will look like.

National Geographic looked into this and took some amazing portraits to back up the idea that, in the future there will be ‘fewer’ races. We are seeing evidence of racial blending and as it continues no one will be just one race.

Up until 2000, the US Census Bureau only allowed people to choose one race. When they broadened the scope of available answers some 6.8 million people identified with multiple races.

The trend continued to grow 32 percent over the next ten years. Race has been proven a biological inaccuracy. Race is a way of categorization, and a political device more than a scientific one. Yes, we all look different but we also act different and sometimes contradicting the status quo.

Ancestry is a more apt description of what we are referring to with ‘race’. We can track a group’s migration, influences and choices through this vague system. Travel is easier now days, and as a result, different groups of people are mixing more thoroughly with different groups around the world.

The blending of many physical traits leads to interesting subdivisions of classification. People are creating new classes like ‘Blasian’, ‘Chicanese’, or even ‘Filatino’. The list is nearly endless as more groups of people come together.

There are obvious benefits to this mashing of the races. If everyone’s race is blended with one another it will get harder and harder to be biased. By 2050, hopefully race will be such an inclusive topic that it can no longer cause negative social repercussions.
