We tend to hold unto certain relationships out of comfort or history, even when they no longer serve us. However, we need to learn to draw a line when those we care about start to suck out our energy. While this might not mean that they’re “bad” people per say, they might just be bad for us.
It may be best to keep the following types of people at arm’s length, as to protect ourselves and our happiness.
This kind of person usually is spontaneous and rebellious without worrying too much of the consequences. They procrastinate on responsibilities and view accountability as a “later problem.” They avoid confrontation and commitment and hide behind a “free-spirited” label.
This type of person is afraid of growth and is stuck holding on to their inner child. Yet, the real world is bound to catch up to them, and when it does they might explode.
There is a difference between being a victim of circumstance and thriving on pity parties. Debby downers refuse to take action and change their circumstances. They would rather have everyone feel bad for them while they continue to feel bad about themselves.
These people have a hard time moving forward and finding closure. They can be extremely co-dependant as they are often trying to fill avoid. They look for others to make them happy rather than find a way to do it for themselves.
While pictures are a great way to captivate memories, there is a balance to it. Those who are completely absorbed in living through the screen rather than taking in their surroundings are likely focused on how others perceive their life rather than how happy they feel in it.
This is usually a sign of low self-esteem and of looking for approval from others. They have something to prove but it’s not to others, it’s to themselves.
Be careful of those who are out to tear other people down. They are simply not happy and can’t stand for those around them to be either. One day, these people will tear you down too.
There is a difference between having a genuine interest in your life, and wanting to know out of curiosity so that they can gossip about it. Usually, gossip has judgemental overtones and distorts the story.
Think of mansplainers for example or people who simply attempt to explain something they know nothing of. They have an opinion about things they’ve never experienced and aren’t actually taking the time to educate themselves about it. They’re not open to alternative perspectives and are often stuck in their ways.
They aren’t looking for growth or expansion, they are simply looking to be assertive, in control, and the center of attention. They will even critique your life without looking in the mirror.
These people are often narcissists. They don’t care about what others have to say, they just love the sound of their own voice. They need to boost their ego by bragging about themselves to others. They need to feel in control, and be able to direct the conversation themselves.
You’ll notice that they seldom ask questions or remember what you told them because they’re not really listening.
As the name suggests, the emotional vampires completely drain you out of any good feelings. They are a lot to handle at all times. They are always vibing on such a low frequency that no matter how high your vibrations are, they never balance them out.
These people are toxic in many forms. They either never stop critiquing you, or never take control of their problems, or simply are quite pessimistic. There’s nothing you can say or do to change their worldview or make them feel better. It has to come from them.
We tend to hold unto certain relationships out of comfort or history, even when they no longer serve us. However, we need to learn to draw a line when those we care about start to suck out our energy. While this might not mean that they’re “bad” people per say, they might just be bad for us.
