Did you know that most Americans clock in more than 10 hours of screen time every single day? Blame it on work but the negative impact is still the same. Screen time not only disrupts sleep and increases fatigue, but the information behind the screen can in itself be harmful.
On the other hand, nature is healing. Not only does it have psychological effects like being able to clear your mind and feel a part of something bigger but it also has a long list of physiological effects that reduce feelings of stress or anger, improve your mood with boosts of serotonin and improve confidence and self-esteem. Even just a 10-minute nature walk or having plants around can make a difference.
The 20-minute technique is also known as the Pomodoro Technique, and it’s designed to make responsibilities feel less daunting by breaking them up and setting achievable goals. That way instead of procrastinating from morning to night, you get tasks over with.
Think of the days you can’t find the motivation to take time out of your day off to clean. Rather than think of it as a whole day endeavor, set a 20-minute timer and get to it. Do as much as you can during that 20 minutes and celebrate when the time goes off by going back to sit. 20 minutes goes by fast, and setting an alarm gives you a sense of urgency. Plus you’d be surprised at how much you can do in 20 minutes if that’s all you’re focusing on.
Everyone is so busy making new year resolutions and adding more to their plate instead of taking the time to figure out what they need to release first to make space for growth. Before you can adopt new habits, you need to create anti-resolutions that assess what you need to stop doing next year.
Which people do you need to detach from? What insecurity do you need to leave behind? What obligations are draining without serving you? The more anti-resolutions you have, the lighter you’ll feel and the more you’ll balance out your energies.

Mark Twain once said, “eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.” Maybe that didn’t make any sense to you but the frog that we’re interested in is a metaphor for the most daunting and important task on your to do list. This is the task that you’re most likely to procrastinate on because you don’t even know where to start.
The best way to tackle it and prosper is by developing the habit of getting rid of it first. The key to growth and prosperity is to do something about those big tasks. Make it the first thing you tackle every morning. Once you eat the biggest frogs, all the other frogs won’t seem so bad anymore.
Work to live, don’t live to work. If you love your job great if you’re working a lot because you have no choice that’s okay too but in either case, you need time away. There are numerous studies that show that those who take all their vacation time off are happier and even have fewer cardiovascular issues.
Your work will still be there when you get back and whoever you work for will survive without you for a short period. What you run out of is good health, precious time with loved ones, energy, and experiences that you missed out on. Take time to also be alone and meditate with your thoughts. The effects of mindfulness and meditation are now a big part of mental health psychology. In order to work well, you need to get away and create a work/life balance.
If you’ve noticed the key to reaching your highest self in 2022 is in finding balance. The 80/ 20 rule is a way to balance while remaining realistic and it can be applied to most aspects of your life. For instance, expect 20% failure to 80% success. Work had for 80% of the week but make sure to indulge and relax for at least 20. 80 percent of the results comes from 20 percent of the efforts…You get it.
